Restaurant Uniform Case Study
MOMO was never a neutral backdrop. The dining room was layered and atmospheric, defined by carved timber, lattice screens, saturated colour and candlelight. It felt transportive without becoming theatrical. The uniform had to belong to that environment. It could not read as costume, yet it could not fade into the background.
LOLO was commissioned to develop a front of house uniform that reflected the restaurant’s North African inflection while remaining disciplined, contemporary and practical. The brief required a clear visual identity for the service team, something recognisable and coherent across male and female staff. At the same time, the garments needed to withstand the demands of evening service, allowing ease of movement and long term durability without compromising refinement.
The design centred on a deep burgundy shirt featuring a tightly scaled geometric diamond motif. The pattern drew from North African visual language, yet it was controlled and modern in its repetition. The scale was deliberately restrained, creating texture rather than noise. Colour anchored the garment within the room, while the geometry introduced rhythm and structure.
The silhouette was tailored but relaxed, worn untucked over slim black trousers to balance elegance with fluidity. Fabric selection was critical. A lightweight cloth with a subtle sheen responded to the restaurant’s warm, low light, giving depth to the burgundy tone without appearing glossy.
The finished uniform became part of the choreography of service. It reinforced the atmosphere without dominating it. Pattern, colour and tailoring worked together to support the experience of the room, offering a quiet confidence that matched MOMO’s character.
